Students at South Walton High School are waving goodbye to assistant principal Tripp Hope.
Hope was selected as the principal for Walton Middle School.
The announcement was made at the July 17 Walton County School District meeting.
"My only hesitation was breaking up Lone Ranger and Tonto," School Superintendent Carlene Anderson said in a telephone interview on July 25.
WHS Principal Mark Ewing and Hope were a successful team, she said.
"But Tripp applied for the job at Walton Middle and he was ranked number one," she said.
Anderson said the decision on who will succeed Tripp has not been made. It's possible that a member of the staff will take over as Teacher on Special Assignment, she said.
"The TSA is a quasi-administrative position that can be held for two years. After two years, you know if you have a candidate good enough to be a principal," Anderson said.
Ewing is looking at his team to determine if there is someone who has administrative certification or the interest and will commit to get the certification, she said.
"Mark and I talked today and if he decides to place a TSA there, that is his prerogative, however the board will still have to approve the decision," Anderson said.
